The Working Holiday visa will be replaced with the new Youth Mobility Programme this year. No exact dates have been given as of yet but we believe it might be as early as the beginning of August 2008. With the current regulations South Africa does not qualify for this new Youth Mobility Programme. We advise everyone who ever thought of going to the UK to contact us ASAP to start their application.
Grade 12 and University students who complete their studies in November 2008 can still make use of this opportunity but they will have to plan this carefully. The inception date of the visa can be pre-dated up to three months and a person has a further 90 days after the inception date to enter the UK.
For example: A person who applies on the 1st June 2008 can pre-date their visa inception date for the 31st August 2008. They only then have to enter the UK before the 30th November 2008. 1st July 2008 / 31st December 2008 and 1st August 2008 / 31st January 2009.
The Working Holiday Visa allows holders to work and travel in the UK for 2 years. You may legally work for 12 months in that 2 year period. In those 2 years you can undertake any work except in the field of sports.
To qualify for the working holiday visa you must:
Have a valid passport from a Commonwealth Country.
Be aged between 17 and 30 years old (at the time of application).
Be single or married to a person who also qualifies and would travel together.
Have no dependent children over the age of 3.
Be able to support yourself and live in the UK without any help from public funds.
Be able to pay for your return or onward air ticket.
Prove that you will return to SA after the end of your holiday.
Prove that the focus of your trip is to travel and that working will enable you to do so.
